Akiesha Danelle Walker is like most 11 year-olds growing up on Mars in the 24th century. She loves sports and loves to read old Earth novels about Mars written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. But the Mars she loves is the Mars of myth and legend where men and monsters battled for love and honor. The real Mars is dead, with nary a microbe occupying its salty soil. The only things alive on Mars are the people who colonized the red planet centuries ago and the life from Earth they brought with them. Or so everyone keeps telling her. In Book One, Akiesha and her best friend Jordan discover a strange creature living outside their domed city. Everyone keeps telling Akiesha that it was a hallucination. They tell her nothing can live unprotected on the surface of Mars because the air is too thin and cold, and it contains no oxygen to support life. But Akiesha knows what she saw was real. Now she has to prove it.
