Literacy does not come easily to everyone.
If your child is having trouble reading, there may be a good reason. Learning difficulties, disorders and disabilities affect an estimated 10 to 20 percent of the population. Of all learning disorders, a full 70% are related to reading! And if children never 'learn to read' they can never 'read to learn.' Because of the physiology of the developing brain, the key to improving or correcting any reading disorder is EARLY INTERVENTION. It is important that children with reading disorders be ably diagnosed and begin appropriate treatment before the age of 7 years.
However, not all learning problems are necessarily learning disabilities. Many children are simply slower in developing certain skills. Because children show natural differences in their rates of development, sometimes what seems to be a learning disorder may simply be a delay in maturation. StoryPlus is committed to making information and resources available to parents and children for whom reading and learning is a major concern. We invite and encourage you to use this section of our site to learn what signs to watch for if you think your child may have a reading or learning problem.
Reading is the gateway to all other knowledge.
Don't let your child fail to learn.
